Colour, Durability, Reliability: Custom Concrete
Lynn Archibald Interiors has turned to Versatile Concrete for specialty concrete elements in interior design for 20 years thanks to their reliability, durability and custom concrete colours and finishes.
When making specialty elements like concrete counters, concrete vanity tops, concrete hearths and fireplace surrounds, Archibald Interiors relies on Versatile Concrete for their custom concrete colours and durable materials.
Every Bench Site Design project is unique, so they need to work with a custom concrete company that offers creative solutions to meet the needs of each specific endeavour.
Lynn is able to find the perfect shade with Versatile’s custom colour matching and is finally able to incorporate concrete countertops into design thanks to Richard Dueck and the Versatile Concrete team’s proprietary finishes and precast concrete that is stain resistant and doesn’t crack.
When it comes to a specific project for a case study in how Versatile concrete has helped Lynn over the years, it’s tough to pick just one. The interior designer has been working with Versatile Concrete since the custom concrete company’s beginning 20 years ago. Lynn herself has been working as an interior designer for over 30 years, so it’s safe to say she knows her stuff and exactly what she’s looking for in a design partner. Throughout the years working with Versatile, their interior design projects have been mostly residential including concrete counters, concrete vanity tops, concrete hearths and fireplace surrounds.
“They’re probably the only concrete company I do recommend for all those reasons [colour, durability, reliability]. If I have a problem, they'll fix it. If I need a specific colour, they'll make it. If I need a specific size it's doable.” Lynn A., Lynn Archibald Interiors
There are a few pieces that come to mind when Lynn is asked how Versatile Concrete has helped Lynn Archibald Interiors achieve the looks she’s going for. In one case: the colour of a fireplace mantel. She was searching for a shade of gray for a client and was struggling to find one that was just right.
She also recalls how years ago, the concrete trend was up and coming in interior design. Concrete counters were all the rage but they had two major issues: they cracked and they stained. “A long time ago the finish on concrete got a bad rep because it was marked and stained,” Lynn explains. “If you put an olive oil bottle down it would leave a ring.”
People loved the idea of a concrete counter but the cracking and staining kept them away.
For the mantel: Richard Dueck, owner of Versatile Concrete, helped Lynn find the exact colour of concrete she was looking for. “I explained to Richard what I needed and he returned with multiple custom colour options to choose from. I got the exact right colour,” Lynn says. “You can rely on them.”
And when it comes to cracking and stained concrete counters, Lynn is pleased to say that Versatile Concrete cracked the code, and can incorporate these concrete elements into her designs. “I was really cautious about specifying concrete for that reason but he’s come up with a finish that doesn’t do it,” she explains. “The surfaces don’t crack or mark the way that others can. Richard came up with a finish that is second to none,” she says.
